Submissions

We Are Currently Closed to Unsolicited Submissions

During our open submission period, 50/50 Press accepts submissions
                                      from new and established authors!

At this time, we are only able to accept queries from authors living and working in the United States.

What we are currently looking for full-length manuscripts in the following genres:
  • General Fiction
  • Creative Nonfiction
  • Crime Fiction & Mysteries
  • Inspirational Fiction
  • Romance
  • Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror
  • Suspense & Psychological Thrillers
  • Women's Fiction & Chick Lit
  • Middle Grade Fiction (Ages 8-12)
  • Young Adult Fiction (Ages 13-18)
  • New Adult Fiction (Ages 18-25)

If you have a great book that doesn't seem to fit one of the categories above, submit it anyway!  We'll take a quick look at nearly anything, particularly if it's well-crafted!

What we are not currently looking for:
  • Erotica
  • Novellas or Novelettes (Unless part of a series)
  • Plays or Screenplays
  • Picture Books or Chapter Books
  • Poetry
  • Short Stories (Unless collected into an anthology)
  • Currently Published Books

  • Submissions for Graphic Novels are currently closed, but check back later because we may be open for those soon!

                                                            SUBMIT!

During our open submission time, and if we request work from you during a Twitter pitch or other contest, please submit by sending your query letter and the first 20 pages of your manuscript in an email addressed to:  submissions@5050press.com

Before you query, please make sure your book is complete, edited, and polished.  If accepted, we will work with you on further edits and revisions, but you should make sure you're sending your very best work!  Have you finished developmental edits, line edits, and proofreading?  Have all your beta readers approved?  Great! Send your book our way!

In your query letter, please include your contact information, a brief 1-2 paragraph description of your novel including the word count and genre, a brief 1 paragraph bio, and links to your website and social media sites, if available.

If you've never written a query letter before, we highly recommend reading THIS ARTICLE from Writer's Digest or visiting the QUERY SHARK website.

We do not require exclusive submissions, but we ask that if you choose to submit to small press publishers directly, you do not simultaneously submit your work to agents. If you have an agent, they can connect with us to submit on your behalf.

                                                     COMPENSATION

We pay authors 50% net royalties on all books published with us. Net royalties are defined as the actual money received for books after print and distribution costs. This figure is in keeping with standards set by the Author's Guild.

50/50 Press is not a large publishing house where authors and their work get lost in the shuffle.

Unlike larger imprints, we work closely with authors to achieve their vision.
If your book is chosen to become part of the 50/50 family, we will work with you throughout the entire publishing process-- from edits to marketing.  Our goal is to build long-lasting relationships with our authors and grow with them throughout their careers.

At the same time, we are not a vanity press.  We do not charge authors for services, and we do not publish everything submitted to us.  If you are considering self-publishing and have been approached by one of these publishing houses, please do your research.  An author should never have to pay to have their work published.

All of our titles are available in both print and eBook form.
